Dr.-Ing. habil. Frank Sill Torres has an academic background in Electrical Engineering, with his Diploma and Dr.-Ing. degrees awarded by the University of Rostock, Germany, in 2002 and 2007, respectively. He later completed his Habilitation in Computer Science at the University of Bremen, Germany, in 2023. His professional journey includes a post-doctoral fellowship and a senior engineer position at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) in Brazil from 2007 to 2010. Following this period, he was appointed as a professor at the Faculty of Engineering at UFMG, where he remained until 2018.

In 2018, Frank joined the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) in Bremen, and in 2019, he became the head of the Department of Resilience of Maritime Socio-technical Systems at the Institute for the Protection of Maritime Infrastructures of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Bremerhaven, Germany. By 2021, he had assumed additionally the role of acting director of the institute. Concurrent with his roles at DLR, he has been lecturing at the University of Bremen and the University of Applied Sciences of Bremerhaven, Germany.

His academic contributions include authoring and co-authoring over scientific publications and books, and he holds two patents. His involvement in the academic community extends to serving on several program committees for international conferences and organizing numerous workshops and conferences. From 2014 to 2020, he was a Associate Researcher of the Brazilian National Research Council (CNPq). Since 2024, he is member of the review board “4.42-04 Hardware Systems and Architectures for Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence” of the German Research Foundation (DFG).

Frank’s current research are centered around Resilience Engineering, Maritime Security, Dependable Computing and Emerging Technologies.
