
PD Dr.-Ing. Frank Sill Torres received the Diploma and Dr.-Ing. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Rostock, Rostock, Germany, in 2002 and 2007, respectively. In 2023, he completed his Habilitation in Computer Science at the University of Bremen, Germany. From 2007 to 2010, he worked as a post-doctoral fellow and as a senior engineer at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) in Brazil, where he was mainly involved in the integration of sensor systems. In 2010, Frank received a professorship at the Faculty of Engineering of UFMG, Brazil, which he held until 2018. During this time, he was mainly concerned with the reliability of technical systems and was coordinator of several scientific projects. In 2018, Frank moved to the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) in Bremen, where he was mainly involved in project acquisition and research on nanotechnologies. In 2019, he joined the Institute for the Protection of Maritime Infrastructures of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Bremerhaven, Germany, as head of the Department of Resilience of Maritime Systems. Since 2021, he is also the acting director of the very same institute. Besides, he is a lecturer at the University of Bremen, Germany, the University of Applied Sciences of Bremerhaven, Germany and he is a member of the Post-graduation Program in Electrical Engineering at the UFMG, Brazil.
Frank is author and co-author of more than 150 scientific publications and books and holds two patents. In addition, he is member of several program committees of international conferences and has organized many workshops and international conferences.
Frank’s research interests shifted from Low Power Integrated Circuit Design over Design of Reliable Integrated and Embedded Systems to Nanocomputing as well as Resilience and Security of maritime Infrastructures.
